David T.'s Story
Life
(For those reading this on the east coast, I went to grade school in Decatur, GA and Cincinnati, OH. Jr Hi in Bowie, Maryland. Started high school in Maryland, finished in California).
After I graduated in 1970 from Ygnacio Valley High in Concord, CA, (San Francisco bay area) I went to DVC for 2 years. In Dec 72, I joined the Air Force and left the area. Spent 5 years in Sacramento, CA. I got married in 1976 to a Sacramento native. In 79 we moved to Seattle, WA where I still live. We moved here to attend a local church and Bible college. The church and Bible college became our life but in 1987, it split due to internal problems. We had 2 girls, Lisa and Sarah. They are now (2016) 36 and 32. My wife and I divorced in 93. I remarried in 1998 to Denise. Interestingly, she is from Oakland, CA! We've been back to the bay area a number of times now and gave each other tours of our old stomping grounds.
The most amazing find in Walnut Creek? The Korean War era Eichler house my folks bought for $27,000 in 1967 was on the market for $500,000 in 1995. Now in 2016, that house is on Zillow for $900,000!!! The SF Bay Area is surreal in many ways. Who would buy that old house for a million dollars???
Speaking of Bible college, the most major change in my li...Expand for more
fe was when I became a born again Christian in 1974 at a retreat in Auburn, CA. Due to some very traumatic events (re: see thieves, rust and moths below) that happened in 1972 when I pretty much lost everything dear to me, God finally got my attention as I found myself in the middle of the Illinois corn fields alone and wondering what had happened to my pristine life.
Long story short, I am a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and expect to make heaven my home. As a result, I also morphed from a flaming liberal McGovern supporter to a staunch, outspoken conservative, Christian Republican (although the Republican part is not too happy these days). Big changes over the years.
Now at age 68, I look forward to the new heavens and new Earth God has prepared for Christian believers. I wouldn’t give a wooden nickel for this world. Jesus told us “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;" Mat 6:19-20 (NASB)
I’ve had my fill of thieves, rust and moths. This world is just a big bait & switch. I’m ready to move on.
